Colin Jones and Kirkland Laing are two of the best British Welters ever.
It does’nt matter that neither were a world champ, they were world class when the division was at one of its highest points in the modern era.

@GreatestHooligan if he fights in USA? he did fight in for world title in 1983 getting a draw, & losing rematch on split decison! hardly “get fuck in the ass” as you eloquently put it! This fight is from 1980, are you new to Boxing or something!

@GreatestHooligan this Colin was one of UK”s biggest punchers, Olympic rep from Montreal, ABA Champ, Lonsdale belt winner, Commonwealth & European Champ also 3 time World title challenger. Colin would kill you with 1 punch!

Yes Laing did fight Duran and Beat him. Then proceeded to disappear off the face of the earth….losing his chance of a title shot
I always wondered what happened to Colin Jones!
I had a great vhs tape full of him, Duran, Hagler etc until my big fat bitch of an ex put coronation street all over it!!!
Colin Jones just kept on moving forward and wouldn’t give up! Colin Jones soaked up some punishment, but at the end of day he caught Kirkland with a good punch and won the fight. Kirkland always tended to carry his left low, leaving himself wide open for a right-hander, but his reflexes usually got him out of trouble! The only problem being that the longer a fight went the more tired he became, so his reflexes were just that bit slower!!

the true athlete is the one that ends up stronger at the end…having the power to finish another man makes tjones the stro nger man and better athlete…
why bring race into any sport.. kirk was class but just got caught like bomber graham lewis morrison etc… colin was class..
what about making statements like “you described your disgusting bile really well” and “public domain” does that make me sound thick!? you must have pretty high standards! I used some bad language, i’m not overly sensitive to language like that, like some people are. I used that word because i wanted to make my anger and opposition to vile racism as clear as possible. you’re obviously a very delicate flower so I will refrain from more such language but i apologise for nothing.
Making obscene comments makes you sound as thick as you probably are.

supremely talented,and should have been w/c in the right hands and guidance.. kirk used to get stoned before his fights.big problem.. beat duran in what was seen as a warm up for duran.upset don king who didn`t speak to his trainer again..could have,should have..good luck K.L.
I loved Honeyghan as a kid, growing up he was my favorite fighter, i remember him beating lloyd hibbert and then beating up sylvester mittee for the european crown, doin gene hatcher in about 40secs, what a great fighter he was, hard as nails but a bloody good boxer too, honeyghan was in a different class to jones. before nigel benn the ragamuffin man was easily the most exciting british fighter around
true, far from average but Laing took a beating for nigh on 26seconds without reply and still didnt go down. deffinalty the best british fighter not to be world champion imo
Colin Jones was robbed with a draw against runner Milton. Curry was weight drained against Honeyghan, anyway Wales have the greatest ever British fighter Jimmy Wilde, “the ghost with a hammer in his hand” 7stone wet through with 99ko”s, voted 3rd hardest puncher of all time by Ring magazine!
I take your point about Laing winning the fight by a mile, & being complacent, but Colin Jones did it to him again & in the 9th rd again, that is clumsy! Jones was Olympic rep, won Lonsdale belt outright, Commonwealth & European Belt, & had unluckly draw for World crown, hardly average!
Clearly the black guy (Laing) was the better boxer and athlete. Winning the fight by a mile. He became complacent and walked on to a big shot..boom. Can happen to any fighter (ask Lennox lewis). The preceeding rubbish is juvenile crap. Laing went on to beat Roberto Duran 2 years later. Great fighter.
